Meet the Team
Thomas Siino CPA (inactive)
Tom Siino has spent the last 20 years in the placement and consulting industry where he has been responsible for client development and the placement and recruiting of senior-level accounting and finance professionals. Tom is currently President of Siino & Associates LLC. Siino & Associates LLC was formed in 2012 through the purchase by Tom Siino of the California territory of AC Lordi, where Tom worked for the previous 5 years. AC Lordi was formed in California 7 years earlier by the acquisition of two bay area consulting and placement firms, A4C (where Tom worked from 1999 - 2004) and The Nolan Group. Although practicing under different names, Siino & Associates LLC and its predecessors have been continually operating in the bay area since 1980.
Tom’s other staffing and consulting experience includes 5 years as the Vice President for Nelson & Associates, which he joined in 2003 to start up the Senior Consulting Services division. Nelson & Associates is part of the Nelson Family of Companies (NFOC). Under Tom’s leadership, the division achieved profitability in the first six months and had significant growth in revenue, gross profit and contribution margin each of the 5 years of Tom’s leadership. Tom’s responsibility also included the San Francisco branch of the temporary and executive search division for Accounting and Finance growing that division from one person to five people.
Before entering the placement and consulting industry, Tom’s experience includes over 19 years in public accounting where he was a partner at both the local firm of Hood & Strong CPAs (1980 – 1994) and the national accounting firm of Grant Thornton LLP (1994 – 1999).
Tom is a Summa Cum Laude graduate of St. Mary’s College of California, having received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting in May 1980. He also holds an MBA degree in Finance from the California State University – Hayward and obtained his CPA license in 1983.
Michael Scharlau
Like Tom Siino, Michael Scharlau has spent the last 20 years in the placement and consulting industry where he has been responsible for client development and the placement and recruiting of senior-level accounting and finance professionals. Michael is currently Director of Recruiting at Siino & Associates LLC. Prior to joining Siino & Associates Michael held similar positions with Nelson & Associates, AC Lordi (formerly A4C) and Kreuzberger & Associates. While at Nelson & Associates Michael’s Senior Consulting Division was awarded Division of the Quarter and Year on multiple occasions.
Michael’s additional professional experience includes Director level positions with UCSF where he was responsible for operations, collections, computer services, marketing and budgeting. He also served as CFO for a California wine industry trade association. His experience also includes Senior Consultant positions leading various projects including Sarbanes-Oxley and system implementations with various organizations including Kaiser Permante (where he led national recruiting for finance and accounting professionals) and McKesson Corporation. Michael was also the Accounting Manager of a large Division of Del Monte Corporation.
Michael earned a BS in Business Administration from the University of Arizona and a M.B.A. from Golden Gate University.
